The hacker who attacked Munchables returned the stolen $97 million in eight hours, including $62.8 million worth of Ether (ETH).

On March 26th, the Ethereum-based gamification Web3 platform Munchables detected a hacker attack that stole more than 17,400 ETH.

Munchables has taken all measures to trace the stolen assets, including enlisting the help of ZachXBT and PeckShield.

According to DeBank statistics, the exploiter's wallet address indicates that he interacted with the Munchables protocol at around 9:26 a.m. WTC, withdrawing a total of 17,413 ETH.

Independent "blockchain sleuth" ZachXBT identified the hacker's wallet, which contained 17,413 ETH ($62.5 million), and suggested that the hack was carried out by a North Korean programmer hired by Munchables. ZachXBT noted that the programmer used four different nicknames.

On March 27, Munchables said the hacker was one of its developers and returned the stolen money.

"The Munchables developer shared all the private keys involved to assist in the recovery of the user's funds. Specifically, the wallet key containing $62,535,441.24, the key containing 73 WETH, and the wallet key containing the remaining funds," Munchables said in a statement.

The founder of NFT marketplace Blur and Project Blast, aka Pacman, said he will work with the Munchables team to help distribute the returned funds.
