Biography and Professional History
One of the most widely respected and quoted currency experts, Marc Chandler has been analyzing and advising on the global capital markets for more than 30 years. Throughout his career on Wall Street, Chandler has advised private businesses, hedge funds and asset managers on navigating the foreign exchange market. He previously was the global head of currency strategy at Brown Brothers Harriman and the chief currency strategist at HSBC. In October 2018, he joined Bannockburn as a managing director and chief market strategist.
A keen observer of the interconnection of international politics and economics, Marc appears frequently in the financial press – CNBC, CNBC Asia FOX Business, Bloomberg TV and Radio, Barron’s, The Financial Times, The Washington Post, and more – where he provides his colorful take on the global financial and economic news.
The currency market isn’t just about numbers — it’s about narratives. Understanding global politics, central banks, and investor psychology is key to making sense of the dollar and its place in the world.

Achievements and Education
1984 – Received a master’s degree in American History from Northern Illinois University.
1985 – Received a master’s degree in International Political Economy from The University of Pittsburgh.
1993-2017 – Taught International Political Economy at New York University.
2009 – Published his first book “Making Sense of the Dollar”, which received a Bronze Award from Independent Publishers.
2017 – Published his second book “Political Economy of Tomorrow”. This is a broader economic and social discussion.
Chandler is an honorary fellow of the Foreign Policy Association and has been named a Business Visionary by Forbes.
He is also an honorary visiting professor at the Darden School of Business at the University of Virginia.
Though a Chicago native, and lifelong Cubs fan, Chandler currently resides in Ocean Grove, New Jersey, with his wife Jeannine.
