BNB Chain adapted for urgent memecoin transactions

BNB Chain adapted for urgent memecoin transactions Blockchain update

BNB Chain has introduced a new optimization for the BSC network as memecoin speculation has led to increased gas fees and network congestion.

According to the project’s website, BSC validators previously stopped processing bids once the block limit was reached, with new blocks being formed every three seconds. However, during peak traffic periods, time-sensitive transactions—such as memecoin swaps—often failed to make it into a block.

“This meant that even users who increased their gas fees to expedite their transactions didn’t always get the priority they expected,” BNB Chain explained. While this mechanism worked well for most operations, it was inefficient for fast-paced memecoin trading.

Now, validators will be able to consider more bids within the same three-second window, increasing the likelihood of higher-value transactions being included in a block instead of lower-priority ones.

“This process will allow validators to gather more bids, improving block formation, especially during high network activity. In other words, transactions interacting with memecoins will receive a higher priority,” BNB Chain stated.

Gas fee surge and memecoin activity

The recent price surge of BNB has been accompanied by a record increase in gas fees on the network. Over the past week, BNB Chain users have spent nearly $15 million on transaction fees—more than double Ethereum’s $7 million and second only to Solana’s $29 million, according to Nansen data. BNB Chain’s gas fees surged by 388% compared to the previous period.

“BSC fees have surged 114% over the past week, while networks like Solana, Ethereum, and Base have seen negative growth,” noted Nansen analyst Aurélie Barthere. She suggested that one potential catalyst for this growth was the recent 60-day pause in Binance’s legal battle with the SEC.

Additionally, network activity was fueled by memecoins inspired by Binance founder Changpeng “CZ” Zhao’s dog, Broccoli. This surge has also boosted the popularity of the decentralized exchange PancakeSwap.
