Javier Milei backs Ethereum event in Argentina despite crypto scam controversy Javier Milei backs Ethereum event in Argentina

Argentine President Javier Milei has accepted Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin’s proposal to host a major blockchain event in Argentina, signaling his commitment to cryptocurrency adoption despite a recent scam tarnishing his image.

The event, called Devconnect, gathers Ethereum developers and industry leaders to discuss innovations in decentralized finance and blockchain technology, according to Livecoins

Buterin, who has previously praised Argentina’s contributions to the Ethereum ecosystem, emphasized the country’s potential in the global cryptocurrency market.

"The Ethereum community in Argentina is full of incredible builders," Buterin stated. "Recent news should not be seen as a reason to give up but rather as an example of why education is so important."

A Strategic Move Amid Controversy

Milei’s embrace of the Ethereum event comes at a delicate moment. His image was recently linked to a fraudulent cryptocurrency scheme, despite having no direct involvement. By aligning with Ethereum’s established community, the libertarian president seeks to reinforce his support for technological innovation while distancing himself from bad actors in the space.

However, not everyone is convinced. Bitcoin pioneer Adam Back, cited in Satoshi Nakamoto’s whitepaper, criticized Milei’s openness to altcoins, warning that they are “worse than fiat” and unreliable.

Despite the skepticism, Milei appears determined to position Argentina as a hub for cryptocurrency and blockchain development, betting that initiatives like Devconnect will boost the nation’s standing in the global tech economy.

Recently, Tim Draper predicted economic growth in countries prioritizing "freedom and trust," highlighting Argentina under Melei and Uruguay under La Calle as promising markets. His outlook reflects a broader trend favoring emerging economies embracing capitalism and liberalization.
