Azul, one of Brazil’s leading airlines, has announced a partnership with fintech firm Bankei Soluções em Tecnologia, enabling customers to accumulate airline miles through cryptocurrency purchases.

The collaboration marks a significant step in integrating digital assets into the mainstream travel industry, offering Azul Fidelidade program members two points for every five reais spent on digital currencies via the Bankei app, according to Cointelegraph.

Expanding travel rewards through crypto

To participate, users must download the Bankei app, create an account, and register their CPF (Brazilian individual taxpayer number) with Azul Fidelidade. During the promotional launch period from February 26 to March 12, new users can earn up to 9,000 points, which will be credited within 15 business days after the campaign ends.

Azul Fidelidade points can be redeemed for domestic and international flights, travel packages, park tickets, products, and gift cards. Additionally, Azul customers will gain access to an investment platform for digital assets provided by Bankei.

"We are committed to offering more benefits and embracing new market solutions. This partnership reflects our dedication to innovation and flexibility for Azul customers," said Marco Leite, Senior Partnership Manager at Azul Fidelidade.

Blockchain’s growing role in aviation

This initiative is Azul’s first foray into the blockchain space, but Brazil’s aviation sector has been adopting the technology since 2021. That year, the National Civil Aviation Agency (ANAC) approved blockchain-based digital flight logs, reducing paperwork and increasing security.

With airlines worldwide exploring blockchain applications, Azul’s move signals the growing convergence of cryptocurrency and the travel industry in Brazil.

Meanwhile, Brazil has solidified its status as a global leader in crypto, with 26 million citizens—12% of the population—owning digital assets. This ranks the country sixth worldwide in crypto adoption, highlighting its growing impact in the sector.
