Ethereum Foundation overhauls leadership: Hsiao-Wei Wang and Tomasz Stanczak take charge

After Aya Miyaguchi's recent appointment as President of the Ethereum Foundation, the nonprofit organization is strengthening its leadership with two new co-executive directors. Meanwhile, former EF researcher Danny Ryan, who was once considered for the sole executive director role, is now co-founding the marketing division Etherealize.
The nonprofit, which oversees the development of the world’s second-largest blockchain, announced on Saturday that longtime Ethereum researcher Hsiao-Wei Wang and Nethermind founder Tomasz Stanczak would take on the roles of co-executive directors.
"Ethereum is evolving into a resilient, permissionless, and censorship-resistant foundational layer for global finance and software… The ecosystem will thrive together, and under Xiaowei and Tomasz's leadership, EF will continue to uphold the core values that originally motivated Ethereum’s existence," the EF statement reads.
Hsiao-Wei Wang emphasized that under her leadership, the Ethereum Foundation will remain committed to its core principles. Tomasz Stanczak noted that he will officially assume his role on March 17, following the completion of necessary work-related documentation.
The co-leadership model has drawn criticism from some members of the community. However, Stanczak defended the approach in his post, arguing that developers should have the flexibility to communicate with whomever best suits their style and needs.
"Each of us has the mandate to execute at the highest level. Think of it as 2-for-1, rather than waiting for both of us to respond," Stanczak wrote.
Danny Ryan takes on a new role
Former EF researcher Danny Ryan, whom some expected to become executive director, has instead joined as a co-founder of Etherealize, an "institutional marketing and product division" for Ethereum.
The announcement follows a leadership reshuffle that saw former executive director Aya Miyaguchi assume the elevated role of president of the nonprofit.
Meanwhile, Danny Ryan will return in a new role, co-founding the institutional marketing and product division Etherealize alongside Vivek Raman.
"I’m excited to announce that I’m joining as a co-founder of @etherealize_io to help transition the world to Ethereum. I’ll be at the helm alongside @vivekventures and the incredible team he’s building," Ryan wrote on his X page.
