Coinbase launches Engineering Hub in Singapore to boost local developer ecosystem Coinbase partners with Singapore to grow blockchain

Coinbase has officially launched a new Engineering Hub in Singapore, marking a significant step in the company's efforts to expand blockchain innovation throughout the Asia-Pacific (APAC) region. This initiative is a collaborative effort with the Singapore Economic Development Board (EDB) to strengthen Singapore’s role as a digital and blockchain technology center.

Focusing on local talent and development, Coinbase aims to foster a thriving blockchain ecosystem that supports the financial and technological growth of the region.

Supporting digital transformation and training initiatives

The establishment of this Engineering Hub reflects Coinbase's strategy of enabling local engineers and developers to help shape the blockchain economy, making cryptocurrency more accessible and practical for daily transactions in Singapore and beyond. Coinbase’s vision closely aligns with Singapore’s Smart Nation 2.0 strategy, which emphasizes digital transformation and technological upskilling. By supporting this vision, Coinbase hopes to contribute to Singapore's goal of becoming a leader in digital financial services and cryptocurrency adoption.

Philbert Gomez, Executive Director & Head of Digital Industry Singapore (DISG), expressed optimism about the partnership, stating, “Coinbase’s new Engineering Hub is an exciting addition to Singapore’s digital industry. This move expands opportunities for talented individuals to engage in world-class product development and strengthens Singapore’s position as a responsible hub for blockchain innovation. We are proud to partner with Coinbase in building the infrastructure that will support the future of Web3 from Singapore.”

The Engineering Hub will provide Singaporean engineers with resources, specialized training, and access to tools that encourage blockchain innovation. Coinbase is committed to developing a skilled workforce capable of driving blockchain technology advancements. Currently, Coinbase employs over 600 people in the APAC region, about 70 of whom are in Singapore. The company plans to further expand its Singapore team as it scales up operations with the new Hub, signaling a long-term investment in the region.

Long-term investment in the region and blockchain integration

Singapore has already shown its commitment to digital innovation, allocating 1% of its GDP to the Research, Innovation, and Enterprise 2024 Plan. This funding aims to strengthen Singapore’s status as a global research and development center, especially in the fields of science, engineering, and technology. The government’s support aligns with Coinbase's efforts to cultivate a competitive, future-ready workforce capable of keeping up with the evolving demands of Web3 and the blockchain economy.

The push for blockchain integration comes at a time when interest in cryptocurrency in Singapore is high. Studies show that 56% of finance-oriented Singaporeans view cryptocurrency as the future of finance. By establishing the Engineering Hub, Coinbase aims to support this interest and strengthen Singapore’s role as a central player in the APAC digital asset ecosystem.

Coinbase’s investment in Singapore is part of a broader strategy to expand partnerships and infrastructure in APAC, facilitating global blockchain adoption and ensuring greater access to digital assets. This latest move underscores the company’s commitment to advancing the blockchain landscape and supporting local economies in their digital transformations.

Earlier, Coinbase also released new guidance aimed at educating users on recognizing and avoiding customer service fraud.
