Mexican billionaire Ricardo Salinas invests in Bitcoin and gold

Renowned Mexican billionaire Ricardo Salinas has revealed that, in addition to managing his companies—including media conglomerate TV Azteca and internet provider Total Play Telecomunicaciones—he heavily invests in what he considers the most reliable assets: Bitcoin and gold.
"Approximately 70% of my investments are tied to Bitcoin, while the remaining 30% are in gold and gold-mining companies. I don’t own any bonds, and I don’t invest in stocks except for those belonging to my own companies," he told Bloomberg.
Bitcoin is one of Salinas' key topics on social media, where he has amassed over 2 million followers on X, making him one of Mexico’s most prominent public figures.
Salinas is also actively investing in education, having established schools in Mexico’s largest cities to provide young people with high-quality learning opportunities. In 2023, he launched Universidad de la Libertad, offering courses in entrepreneurship and leadership.
Why investing in gold and Bitcoin is profitable
Gold and Bitcoin are two assets widely regarded as secure investment tools for long-term capital preservation. Gold has been used for centuries as a hedge against inflation and economic crises, maintaining its value even during times of financial instability.
Bitcoin, on the other hand, is often referred to as "digital gold" due to its fixed supply of 21 million coins and decentralized nature. It provides investors with a means of portfolio diversification, helping to mitigate risks associated with fiat currencies and the banking system.
Both assets have demonstrated significant value growth over the long run. For instance, gold has more than quadrupled in price over the past 20 years, while Bitcoin has experienced exponential growth since its inception in 2009.
Salinas has publicly acknowledged his Bitcoin holdings for years and has advised investors to consider BTC as a hedge against inflation.
