Renato Trezoitão, a Bitcoin educator and co-author of Bitcoin Red Pill, is making waves in Brazilian politics.

During a recent visit to Belo Horizonte, the capital of Minas Gerais, he met with key political figures to promote Bitcoin adoption at a national level, according to Livecoins.

Trezoitão, a vocal critic of former president Jair Bolsonaro, argues that Brazil must embrace Bitcoin as a strategic economic asset or risk falling behind in the global financial landscape. His visit included meetings with Federal Deputies Eros Biondini and Nikolas Ferreira, as well as Belo Horizonte councilman Vile Santos—all members of the Liberal Party (PL), Bolsonaro’s and Valdemar da Costa Neto's party.

A growing political discussion on Bitcoin

During his talk at Missão Bitcoin, a conference dedicated to cryptocurrency education, Trezoitão warned that countries failing to transition to Bitcoin would be "obliterated." He compared Bitcoin’s rise to historical shifts in monetary systems, where superior forms of money overtook outdated ones.

His discussions with Minas Gerais politicians focused on legislative proposals related to Bitcoin, including Biondini’s bill advocating for a Bitcoin reserve in Brazil and Santos’s initiative to position Belo Horizonte as the nation’s Bitcoin capital.

While Bitcoin adoption is still a niche political issue in Brazil, Trezoitão’s advocacy is bringing it into mainstream political discourse. His ability to engage lawmakers, despite ideological differences, underscores the growing importance of digital assets in shaping Brazil’s financial future.

"Spreading the message," Trezoitão wrote in his X account after his meeting with Ferreira, reaffirming his mission to push Bitcoin into Brazil’s economic and political landscape.

Meanwhile, Brazil has solidified its status as a global leader in crypto, with 26 million citizens—12% of the population—owning digital assets. This ranks the country sixth worldwide in crypto adoption, highlighting its growing impact in the sector.
