DeFi Technologies, inspired by MicroStrategy, launches BTC staking company

DeFi Technologies, inspired by MicroStrategy, launches BTC staking company There will be a new bitcoin company on the market

Publicly traded DeFi Technologies has announced the creation of a subsidiary, CoreFi Strategy, focused on BTC investments.

According to The Block, this new venture will provide investors access to the Core blockchain, which is specifically designed for BTC staking and decentralized finance (BTCfi).

The launch of CoreFi Strategy on the Canadian stock exchange is slated for Q1 2025. CoreFi Strategy will operate similarly to companies like MicroStrategy and MetaPlanet, offering yield opportunities based on both bitcoin and CORE, Core's native blockchain asset.

“This is a unique opportunity to participate in BTCfi and benefit from Core’s growth. We believe CoreFi Strategy can provide investors with a way to profit from the bitcoin staking ecosystem, much like how MicroStrategy brought bitcoin to traditional markets,” said DeFi Technologies CEO Olivier Roussy Newton.

Like MicroStrategy and MetaPlanet’s BTC-focused strategies, CoreFi Strategy intends to acquire and hold assets using strategic leverage.

MicroStrategy and MetaPlanet’s shares surged over 500% in the last year, outperforming bitcoin’s 150% gains. CoreFi Strategy aims to emulate this success, offering investors access to CORE yield.

Core currently holds over 8,200 bitcoins with a total locked value (TVL) exceeding $700 million.

Strategies of MicroStrategy and MetaPlanet

MicroStrategy and MetaPlanet follow a strategy of regular bitcoin purchases, which positively impacts their unrealized profits. MicroStrategy began buying bitcoin in 2020 and has since accumulated significant reserves. This decision was driven by a desire to protect the company’s capital against inflation and unpredictable macroeconomic factors.

MetaPlanet also chose bitcoin as a strategic asset, actively increasing its BTC reserves since 2021. Following MicroStrategy's example, MetaPlanet continues regular bitcoin accumulation, viewing it as an alternative to traditional assets and a hedge against global economic instability.

Meanwhile, BTC reserves held by miners are declining amid new bitcoin price highs.
