Pump.fun reopens live streaming with stricter moderation rules

Pump.fun, the Solana-based memecoin launchpad, has resumed its livestreaming feature for 5% of its users after a suspension last November following a series of egregious abuses.
The platform, which halted live streaming on November 25, 2024, after users broadcasted content such as child abuse and bestiality to artificially boost token values, now aims to foster a safer and more engaging community. In its latest policy update, Pump.fun has imposed stringent moderation rules that prohibit streams containing violence, harassment, sexual content, and any material that endangers youth, among other specified activities. The company has stated that users found in violation of these rules will face immediate termination of their streams and potential suspension from future use of the platform.
New moderation policies and community impact
According to Pump.fun’s livestream moderation policy, the objective is to "cultivate a social environment on Pump.fun that preserves creativity and freedom of expression while encouraging meaningful engagement among users, free of illegal, harmful, and negative interactions." The policy also clarifies that while certain content types are strictly banned, the platform does not intend to universally define all “not safe for work” (NSFW) content as inappropriate. Instead, Pump.fun reserves the right to unilaterally determine the suitability of content and enforce moderation at its discretion. Co-founder Alon announced on social media that only 5% of users will have access to the livestreaming feature initially, as the platform seeks to carefully control the rollout and monitor compliance with its new guidelines. Affected users will have the option to appeal any decisions if they believe moderation actions were taken in error.
As Pump.fun navigates these changes, market observers will be watching to see if tighter controls can restore community trust and ensure the platform’s long-term viability in an increasingly competitive crypto ecosystem.
