Crypto world celebrates 50th birthday of Satoshi Nakamoto

The crypto community is celebrating the 50th birthday of Bitcoin’s pseudonymous creator, Satoshi Nakamoto, amid growing institutional and geopolitical acceptance of the world’s first cryptocurrency.
The true identity of Nakamoto remains one of the greatest mysteries in modern history. Speculation ranges from cryptographers like Adam Back and Nick Szabo to more elaborate theories involving government intelligence agencies.
While Nakamoto’s identity remains unknown, archived data from his P2P Foundation profile once listed him as a 37-year-old living in Japan, with a birthdate of April 5, 1975.

That gives the crypto world every reason to celebrate Satoshi’s birthday on April 5 — and if that information is accurate (and there’s no reason to doubt it), Bitcoin’s creator turns 50 today.
From white paper to trillion-dollar asset
As Cointelegraph points out, Nakamoto’s anonymity has played a crucial role in maintaining the decentralized nature of the Bitcoin network, which lacks any central authority or leadership.
This milestone comes just weeks after U.S. President Donald Trump signed an executive order establishing a Bitcoin Strategic Reserve and Digital Asset Stockpile, marking a major step toward integrating Bitcoin into the U.S. financial system.
“At 50, Nakamoto’s legacy is no longer just code; it’s a cornerstone of economic sovereignty,” says author and intergovernmental blockchain advisor Andy Lian.
“Bitcoin’s reserve status reflects confidence in its scarcity and resilience,” he added.
According to Lian, in half a century, “Nakamoto’s vision of trustless peer-to-peer money has evolved from a white paper to a trillion-dollar asset, transcending its cypherpunk roots and entering the halls of power.”
Will the Nakamoto wallet ever move?
Some questions remain unanswered — including whether the Satoshi Nakamoto wallet, holding over 1 million BTC, will ever be accessed. That wallet has remained untouched for 16 years, even as Bitcoin surpassed $109,000 in January 2025.
In February, Arkham Intelligence published findings estimating that the 1.096 million BTC, then worth over $108 billion, would make Nakamoto the 16th richest person in the world, placing him above Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates.
As we wrote, since the start of April, Bitcoin (BTC) has seen a notable shift in investor behavior, with both short-term and long-term holders ramping up their activity despite the asset trading roughly 25% below its all-time high.
