Ethereum foundation introduces new co-executive directors in management overhaul

The Ethereum Foundation (EF) has announced a major leadership restructuring aimed at accelerating the network’s scaling initiatives and strengthening its core values.
In a forum post published Monday, the EF formalized the appointments of Hsiao-Wei Wang and Tomasz K. Stańczak as its new Co-Executive Directors. Former Executive Director Aya Miyaguchi transitions into a new role as President.
The leadership overhaul follows months of community criticism regarding transparency and calls for more technically experienced governance. Stańczak, also involved with Nethermind, will serve a two-year term, while Wang will act as a bridge between the board and management. Together, they plan to focus over the next year on improving Ethereum mainnet scalability, transaction storage via blobs, and enhancing user and developer experiences across Layer 2 solutions.
Focus on technical excellence and developer growth
The Foundation’s new leadership emphasized a renewed push to bolster Ethereum’s application layer and expand the developer ecosystem. Stańczak and Wang outlined plans to improve Layer 2 interoperability, UX, and communication channels, while bringing greater visibility to applications and L2 projects at events like Devcon.
Additionally, longtime Ethereum figures Josh Stark and Bastian Aue have been named board co-stewards. Stark will oversee project execution and communications, while Aue will focus on hiring and training.
Vitalik Buterin’s continued guidance
Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin remains on the board, continuing to provide technical and intellectual guidance. In a blog post co-authored with Miyaguchi, Buterin emphasized the Foundation’s future priorities: strengthening Ethereum’s technical resilience and promoting its underlying values of decentralization, privacy, and open-source development as the network works to attract more users.
