Bybit resolves Apple ID KYC glitch after influencer flags $100K lockout

Cryptocurrency exchange Bybit has addressed a Know Your Customer (KYC) glitch tied to Apple ID logins that temporarily prevented a user from accessing $100,000 in funds.
The issue, flagged by Chinese-speaking crypto influencer EnHeng, prompted immediate action from Bybit’s leadership and multiple internal departments, Сointelegraph reported.
Bybit’s China Team posted on May 18 on X that users had encountered withdrawal restrictions due to an anomaly in the KYC verification process when using Apple ID credentials. One user was affected in particular, whose account was locked despite no signs of tampering or security breaches. According to Bybit, the funds remained safe throughout the process.
Executive-led response ensures resolution
The platform’s response involved a cross-functional effort, including Chief Operating Officer Helen Liu, heads of customer support, risk control, product management, the technical team, and regional divisions. Working in coordination with the affected user, the team recovered account access and ensured fund availability, ultimately confirming that the glitch was an isolated case.
EnHeng, who first verified the issue in a group chat, publicly credited the rapid response to his direct escalation. He noted that the situation underscored how retail investors can often feel voiceless in high-stakes financial systems and praised Bybit for listening and acting quickly.
Context and broader implications
Such platform lockouts are not unprecedented in the crypto sector and often serve as precautionary measures. Past incidents at exchanges like Phemex and Mudrex have shown similar functionality freezes during security reviews or compliance updates. However, Bybit’s transparency and swift executive engagement may serve as a model for proactive customer care amid technical failures.
As exchanges continue to streamline KYC and security protocols—particularly for users logging in through third-party systems like Apple—the incident is a reminder of the critical role user advocacy and accountability play in platform trust.
