Microsoft will soon decide whether to invest in Bitcoin

Microsoft is yet to decide if it will invest in Bitcoin. The tech giant is expected to make its final decision on Tuesday.
According to a filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), Microsoft shareholders will vote on December 10 to determine whether the company should formally assess adding Bitcoin to its balance sheet.
However, the company’s board of directors has recommended voting against the initiative, emphasizing that Microsoft already evaluates a wide range of investment assets as part of its broader strategic policy.
The proposal, titled "Assessment of Investing in Bitcoin," was introduced by the National Center for Public Policy Research, a think tank that considers Bitcoin to be "an excellent, if not the best, hedge against inflation."
Despite these endorsements, Microsoft’s management remains opposed to the proposal. This stance aligns with the views of Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates, who has repeatedly criticized cryptocurrencies for their speculative nature.
Potential implications of the vote
The upcoming vote holds significant implications not only for Microsoft but also for the broader cryptocurrency market. A favorable decision could bolster Bitcoin's status as a viable asset for traditional corporations and financial institutions, highlighting its growing legitimacy as an investment.
If Microsoft rejects the proposal, it would signal the company’s reluctance to follow the lead of tech giants like MicroStrategy and Tesla, which have already made substantial Bitcoin investments.
Notably, MicroStrategy founder Michael Saylor recently conducted a presentation for Microsoft, outlining Bitcoin’s potential as a strategic asset.
