Metaplanet sets ambitious goal to amass 210,000 BTC by 2027

Metaplanet sets ambitious goal to amass 210,000 BTC by 2027 Metaplanet targets 210K BTC by 2027

Japanese investment firm Metaplanet has dramatically escalated its Bitcoin acquisition strategy, announcing plans to hold 210,000 BTC by the end of 2027.

This landmark target positions Metaplanet to become one of the largest Bitcoin-holding public companies globally, rivaling even U.S. corporate heavyweights in digital asset accumulation.

The revised goal, shared in a recent statement by the firm, more than tenfolds its previous ambitions and reflects growing confidence in Bitcoin’s role as a sovereign store of value. To meet this objective, Metaplanet will ramp up share issuance and capital allocation, integrating Bitcoin as a core pillar of its long-term treasury strategy.

Redefining treasury management with Bitcoin

Once targeting 21,000 BTC by 2026, Metaplanet now seeks ten times that amount within a slightly longer horizon. This strategic shift reflects a growing institutional trend of adopting Bitcoin as a treasury reserve asset, driven by concerns over inflation, fiat currency risks, and shifting global monetary policies.

Metaplanet's leadership emphasized that Bitcoin’s finite supply and decentralized nature make it uniquely suited to protect corporate value. “This is a generational opportunity to align our treasury with a truly global asset,” the company noted.

What this means for the market

Metaplanet's bold plan may encourage similar moves from corporations worldwide, particularly in Asia, where public firms have been more cautious with crypto exposure. The decision also mirrors the strategy used by Strategy, which has issued equity to fund its massive BTC reserves.

As global confidence in fiat currencies continues to waver, Metaplanet's pivot suggests a broader institutional migration toward crypto-backed balance sheets.

We wrote earlier that Metaplanet buys 1,088 BTC and becomes 10th largest public Bitcoin holder.
