Pump Fun attracts well-known crypto lawyers to fight Burwick lawsuit

Pump Fun attracts well-known crypto lawyers to fight Burwick lawsuit Meme coin platform Pump Fun accused of fraud;

The meme coin creation platform Pump Fun is preparing for a legal battle with hundreds of users who lost money on their tokens. The disgruntled meme creators have united under the legal firm Burwick Law. Pump Fun’s interests will also be defended by prominent attorneys in the cryptocurrency community.

According to Protos, Pump Fun’s parent company, Baton Corporation, has strengthened its legal team for the upcoming case against Burwick Law. Lawyers previously hired from Digital Commerce Group Brown Rudnick, including Steven D. Pelley, have been joined by Daniel L. Sax and Kyle P. Dorsko from the same firm.

Sax specializes in defense of “white-collar” crime and previously worked as an attorney at the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), where he led investigations into securities fraud. Sax has also defended Shakil O’Nile in a securities class action related to NFTs and represented Mark Cuban and Dallas Mavericks in a case involving their promotion of Voyager Digital.

Dorsko is a commercial litigation lawyer and cryptocurrency specialist. He helped Atomic Wallet dismiss a $100 million hacking liability claim and has worked on cases involving crypto theft and data engineering.

Meanwhile, Pelley of Brown Rudnick, who also worked on Atomic Wallet’s case, has been involved with the crypto developer Hector DAO.

When Burwick Law filed a lawsuit against Pump Fun in mid-January on behalf of platform users, the founders of the meme coin “factory” were caught off guard.

Potentially high-pofile case

The accusations encompass various illegal activities, including violations of U.S. securities laws, artificially inflating token prices for personal gain, and causing significant losses to investors.

A second complaint soon followed, expanding the case to include co-founders Elon Cohen, Dylan Keller, and Noah Bernhard Hugh Twidell, Baton Corporation, and other key figures behind the project.

Burwick Law’s CEO also accused Pump.fun of attempting to intimidate and derail the lawsuit after several tokens, allegedly linked to their family, appeared on the platform in a fraudulent fundraising scheme.

The recent suspension of official X (Twitter) accounts for Pump.fun and co-founder Alon Cohen has renewed Burwick Law’s campaign. The firm suggested that the suspension could be related to the nature of the platform's services. Additionally, the legal firm resumed urging affected investors to join the class-action suit, which now includes over 500 participants.
