Charles Hoskinson urges shift in jurisdiction of Cardano Foundation

Charles Hoskinson, the founder of Cardano, has called for the Cardano Foundation to move its jurisdiction away from Switzerland to alternative locations.
His comments reflect growing concerns about the Foundation’s governance structure, particularly the lack of community involvement in key decision-making processes, Cryptoslate reported.
Hoskinson voiced his dissatisfaction with the current arrangement, where the Swiss government appoints board members without input from the Cardano community. He emphasized the need for greater transparency and collaboration, urging stakeholders to investigate past decisions and individuals connected to the Foundation.
A new model for decentralized governance
Hoskinson believes a shift in jurisdiction could allow the Cardano community to play a more significant role in shaping the Foundation’s governance model. He highlighted jurisdictions such as Abu Dhabi and Wyoming, which offer regulatory frameworks conducive to decentralized ledger technology (DLT) foundations.
According to Hoskinson, relocating the Foundation would enable a more transparent and community-driven governance structure. He proposed a collaborative redesign process, stating:
"The foundation shouldn’t be in Switzerland. There are many jurisdictions that allow for different DLT foundations like Abu Dhabi or Wyoming. The community could design with the CF a new structure, and the CF could grant the funds to this structure."
This proposal underscores Hoskinson’s commitment to ensuring that Cardano’s governance aligns with its decentralized ethos, empowering its community to participate actively in decision-making processes.

Addressing longstanding concerns
Hoskinson’s remarks also drew attention to the Foundation’s relationship with Intersect, an organization supporting the Cardano ecosystem. He encouraged the community to scrutinize past decisions and demand accountability regarding the Foundation’s operations.
The proposed jurisdictional shift signals a potential turning point for Cardano, aiming to strengthen trust, transparency, and decentralized governance. The community’s response and willingness to support this proposal will be critical in determining the Foundation’s future direction.
