Metaplanet makes largest single-day Bitcoin purchase

Japanese investment firm Metaplanet has significantly expanded its Bitcoin holdings, acquiring an additional 2,205 BTC for approximately $237.9 million.
This latest purchase, completed at an average price of around $107,800 per bitcoin, marks the company’s largest single-day acquisition since initiating its Bitcoin treasury strategy, reports Crypto News.
Metaplanet has been consistently funding these acquisitions through a strategic combination of bond issuances and stock warrant exercises, demonstrating a methodical approach to capitalizing its Bitcoin-focused balance sheet. Just days before this purchase, the firm redeemed 6 billion yen in bonds using proceeds from newly exercised warrants, maintaining its aggressive pace of expansion. With this latest addition, Metaplanet now holds a total of 15,555 BTC, underscoring its growing influence in the corporate Bitcoin space.
Rapid ascent among top corporate Bitcoin holders
Metaplanet’s aggressive acquisition strategy has propelled it into the top five global corporate Bitcoin holders, surpassing well-known names like Tesla and Coinbase. According to BitcoinTreasuries data, Metaplanet is now closing in on Riot Platforms, which currently holds 19,225 BTC. With fewer than 4,000 BTC separating the two companies, Metaplanet is well-positioned to soon claim the fourth-largest spot if its current purchasing momentum continues.
The firm has already outlined ambitious targets: aiming for 30,000 BTC by year-end, 100,000 BTC by 2026, and an unprecedented 210,000 BTC by 2027. Achieving this long-term goal would grant Metaplanet control over approximately 1% of Bitcoin’s total supply, positioning it as one of the most influential institutional players in the crypto market.
Strong Q2 performance and accelerating accumulation
Metaplanet’s Bitcoin strategy has not only been aggressive but also remarkably profitable. The company reported a 129.4% BTC yield for the second quarter, alongside an impressive 15.1% yield in just the first week of July. During Q2 alone, Metaplanet acquired 5,237 BTC, valued at approximately 82.5 billion yen ($513 million), with an additional 2,017 BTC added in early July, worth around 31.8 billion yen ($198 million).
These gains demonstrate the firm’s ability to consistently grow its Bitcoin reserves at scale. With the current pace of accumulation and strategic funding mechanisms in place, Metaplanet appears firmly on track to achieve its ambitious treasury targets, further solidifying its leadership role in corporate Bitcoin adoption.
