Stellar and Ripple lead ISO 20022-compliant crypto growth in 2025

Stellar and Ripple lead ISO 20022-compliant crypto growth in 2025 8 сryptocurrencies сomply with ISO 20022

The year 2025 marks an active transition of financial institutions to the new ISO 20022 financial messaging standard introduced by SWIFT. For example, the Fedwire Funds Service of the U.S. Federal Reserve Bank will adopt it on March 10.

The Cryptonomist identified eight cryptocurrencies compliant with the ISO 20022 standard, partially explaining Ripple's rapid growth in recent months.

The new standard involves the transmission of payment messages in the MX format (XML message type), which contains more data, offers greater transparency, and enhances operational interoperability between banks compared to the current MT format.

Preparation for ISO 20022 has been underway for years, and XRP issuer Ripple, focused on cross-border payments, deliberately implemented changes to its blockchain to make it ISO 20022 compliant.

The new messaging standard is also compatible with XLM from Stellar, a fork of Ripple. Both cryptocurrencies have shown strong performance in recent months. XRP gained 27% over the past week and is currently trading at $3.25, poised to challenge its all-time high (ATH) of $3.84.

XLM has risen 33% over the last month to $0.48 but remains far from its ATH of $0.94.

Other cryptocurrencies compatible with ISO 20022 include ADA (Cardano), HBAR (Hedera), ALGO (Algorand), QNT (Quant), IOTA, and XDC.

Most of these cryptocurrencies are still significantly below their historical peaks. While it’s uncertain whether they will reclaim their ATHs, their compatibility with the new financial standard represents a competitive edge that could prove advantageous in the coming year.

As we wrote, the XRP token saw a significant price increase on Thursday following a New York Post report suggesting that President-elect Donald Trump was "receptive" to including non-Bitcoin American cryptocurrencies, such as XRP and Solana (SOL), in a proposed national crypto reserve.
