Binance: Internal passwords leaked to GitHub are outdated

Binance: Internal passwords leaked to GitHub are outdated Binance: Internal passwords leaked to GitHub are outdated

Cryptocurrency exchange Binance said the information in a cache on GitHub is "outdated" and poses "negligible risks," contrary to an earlier report that indicated a "high" level of risk.

The cache contained code, infrastructure diagrams, internal passwords, and technical information, including information on password algorithms and multi-factor authentication.

Cointelegraph reports that on January 24, Binance asked GitHub to clean up the file with a copyright removal request, stating that the information it contained posed "significant risks" and had been posted "without permission."

However, a Binance spokesperson said that the data in the cache was outdated and not similar to what the exchange currently uses.

In addition, the exchange stressed that it intends to protect its intellectual property, in connection with which it sent a request to remove the information on GitHub and filed a lawsuit against the user.

At the same time, Binance itself is facing a lawsuit from Hamas victims who claim that the exchange helped terrorist organizations obtain funding.

According to the complaint filed in the Southern District Court of New York, "Binance processed numerous transactions related to Hamas and Palestinian terrorist groups between 2017 and mid-2023, providing a secret funding tool that the exchange intentionally concealed from US regulators."

In addition to Binance, Hamas victims have filed a similar lawsuit against the governments of Iran and Syria.

The plaintiffs are seeking damages under the US Anti-Terrorism Act.
