Web3 cryptocurrency exchange Gate.io has announced that it has entered into a partnership agreement with D3 Global, giving it a .gate top-level domain (TLD).
D3 Global is a company that specializes in providing next-generation domain names. It develops digital credentials for businesses. The partnership will allow Gate.io to apply for a .gate domain during the upcoming ICANN application period.
According to a message from Gate.io, the company plans to become the first cryptocurrency exchange focused on creating a unique, dedicated top-level domain.
Gate.io will be applying for the ".gate" TLD. This is the last part of a website address in the Domain Name System, identical to addresses such as ".com" and ".org".
Specifically, the approval of the ".gate" TLD will give Gate.io users the ability to create personalized web addresses, initially compatible with Web2 and Web3 addresses, which will serve as digital identities in Web2 browsers and email services, along with cryptocurrency wallets and other blockchain tools.
This will allow the Gate.io exchange to become the first crypto platform with its own dedicated TLD, following the blockchain strategy of Shiba Inu Blockchain (SHIB) and Viction. Other platforms with such extensions, such as ".eth" and ".crypto", are incompatible with the DNS of the regular network.
The patented D3 platform is designed to integrate the traditional Internet and Web3 ecosystems. D3 will address the incompatibility of such domain address extensions with the traditional Internet infrastructure. These are unresolved issues such as a lack of critical functionality, security vulnerabilities, and even brand spoofing.
Integrating these names into Web3 will provide increased security and universal access to the "real Web3 domains" promoted by D3.
Gate.io has taken on the role of innovator in this area. Dr. Lin Han, CEO of Gate.io, commented on the platform's goals: "Partnering with D3 will allow us to provide unique security solutions through identity. It will enhance customers' shopping experience and open the Gate.io ecosystem to billions of users as the safest and most secure environment."
D3 CEO Fred Hsu also praised the collaboration. He believes it will make Web3 technologies "more accessible, scalable, and secure with digital credentials built on DNS."
