MadLads NFT Mint Delayed Amid Massive DDoS Attack

The minting of MadLads NFT collection was delayed on April 20 after experiencing a massive DDoS attack.
This project is closely related to the growing space of the Solana duo - Armani Ferrante and Tristan Yver.
Based on its Twitter announcement, the collection will be open to public minters on Friday at 23:00 UTC. However, it was delayed by around 24 hours to buy time for the creators to solve the problem.
According to MadLads’ analysis, the event caused too much traffic, with billions of pleas dispelled via the cryptocurrency wallet Backpack and outpaced its abilities. This scenario effectively resulted in a distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attack.
Two RPC nodes, access points to the Solana blockchain, were knocked out to the collection’s heavy demand, which spiked a boom for Coral’s wallet application, Backpack. It is the only Solana wallet wherein the MadLads NFTs could be minted.
The public’s excitement made NFT traders forage for any advantages that could guarantee them an access to the project.
For instance, there are desperate seekers that followed the counsel of a Substack blog, implying that purchasing custom RPS nodes from the Solana developer project Helius could benefit them.
Due to this, the signups to the $19.99 Hacker plan of Helius skyrocketed a day before the scheduled minting, prompting CEO Mertz Mumtaz to deflect the misinformed.
On Thursday, he clarified that diving into Helius would not increase their chances of minting MadLad.
The delay happened following a day of electric interest in the Solana duo’s take on non-fungible tokens.
Ferrante and Yver are called xNFTs, recognized as more than just a photo on a blockchain. They also constitute a tokenized code that represents ownership entitlement over its creation.
According to Coindesk, MadLads is supposed to be the pioneer xNFT.
