ProtonMail introduces Bitcoin wallet for secure crypto transactions

Proton AG, the Swiss company behind the world's largest end-to-end encrypted email service, is stepping into the cryptocurrency world. Previously known as ProtonMail, the company has added a feature allowing its users to securely store and send bitcoins.
The open-source wallet, which provides full control over crypto assets, allows users to send and receive cryptocurrency using only their ProtonMail email address. This makes using Bitcoin for everyday transactions easier and also serves as a good advertisement for the secure email service.
Proton AG was founded in 2014 by scientists from the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN). Tim Berners-Lee, one of the fathers of the Internet, currently serves on the company’s advisory board.
More simplicity without sacrificing security
To get access to Proton Wallet, users simply need to subscribe to one of the company’s plans, with one version of the wallet available even for free ProtonMail users.
Existing ProtonMail users can access Proton Wallet with their current login credentials. In addition to the desktop version, Proton Wallet is available as a mobile app for iOS and Android.
Recently, cryptocurrency wallet developers have been focused on simplifying wallet management without compromising security while expanding access to a wider range of devices. Proton AG’s development aligns with these goals.
