Artificial intelligence is quietly becoming an integral part of daily life. It’s used for work, study, and entertainment. But alongside convenience, concerns are growing—what could excessive dependence on neural networks lead to?

The arrival of ChatGPT and other generative AI systems marked a turning point for the world. It’s comparable to the emergence of the Internet. But while the global web gained users gradually, the rise of neural networks was explosive. Today, hundreds of millions of people use AI.
So, what do they use it for most often? To answer that, analyst Mark Cao-Sanders conducted a study for the Harvard Business Review. He analyzed thousands of messages across different forums and discovered that in 2025, interacting with AI was mostly related to support: therapy and conversation, life organization, and the search for meaning.

Interestingly, just a year earlier, the leading uses were idea generation and information search. As we can see, people are still learning and searching for knowledge with AI, but their new priority is help in personal life.
Where the technology Is headed
AI isn’t standing still—it’s constantly evolving. Many major tech companies are already shaping a new technological paradigm. For instance, OpenAI is preparing to launch a line of "AI companions"—devices capable of perceiving the world around them and interacting with users beyond screens. These devices are intended to replace traditional smartphones. The first device is planned for release in 2026.

At the same time, AI is actively being integrated into urban infrastructure. In Abu Dhabi, a $2.5 billion "smart city" project has begun, aiming to manage transportation, healthcare, and energy systems using AI.
There are also projects beyond Earth. China is launching next-generation satellites capable of distributed computing directly in orbit, supporting real-time AI applications.
The hidden threat
At first glance, the situation seems promising and trouble-free: people’s lives are becoming easier, and AI helps in countless ways. However, many have started to suspect there’s a catch.
The analytics company Statista conducted a survey about the main concerns experts and ordinary people have regarding AI. The results show that there are indeed reasons to worry—and many of these fears are well-founded.

According to analysts, three main things worry both the public and experts the most: AI’s spread of inaccurate information, the ability of AI to impersonate humans, the potential misuse of personal data.
And that gives us pause. Even now, we see AI algorithms spreading fake news, generating deepfakes, and using personal data without clear oversight mechanisms. What’s especially concerning is the idea that a person may not realize whether they’re speaking with a real human or a machine—undermining trust in society and creating risks of manipulation.
For everyday users, these threats feel especially real because they directly affect safety, privacy, and information perception. At the same time, experts—despite their deep understanding of the technology—also express concern, particularly regarding transparency and the ethical use of AI systems.
Is there a way forward?
The development of artificial intelligence isn’t just technological progress—it’s a social and ethical challenge. On one hand, AI helps people feel less lonely, organize their lives, and find meaning. On the other, it poses real threats tied to reality distortion, manipulation, and personal data vulnerability.
That’s the paradox: the more humanlike AI becomes, the more it blurs the line between machine and person—and the more it raises concern.
The key task for the coming years is to find a balance between innovation and responsibility. Technology must not evolve in a vacuum, without regard to consequences. We need clear international standards, transparent algorithms, and tools to verify information. Only then can we preserve trust in AI—and ensure people’s safety.
