Digital bank Wise has announced that its Chief Financial Officer, Matthew Briers, is leaving the company.

Briers, who served as Wise's CFO for eight years, has decided to leave the position to fully recover from a car accident in 2022.

According to the Finance Magnates website, Briers will leave the company in March 2024, when Wise CEO Kristo Käärmann returns from maternity leave.

Bryers joined Wise in 2015 as CFO. He previously held senior roles at Google, Lloyds Banking Group, Bain & Company, and Capital One.

Wise said it is launching an urgent search for a new CFO.

"Some of you may know that a year ago, I returned back to work at Wise after a quite horrible accident where I went under the wheels of a bus, and so, with this in mind, my focus will shift to making a full recovery," Bryers said.

"To support an orderly transition, I plan to remain as CFO into the new year. In this period, we'll be working out the transition," he added.

We previously wrote that Wise was offering U.S. clients the benefit of a 3.92% APY on their USD accounts.

Wise is a digital bank that launched in 2011. It is regulated by the FCA and FinCen. The company supports transfers between 80 countries, and users can hold their funds in 54 currencies. All standard banking features and services are free, but there are some limitations.
