IFC Markets suspends CFDs on Anglo American shares amid restructuring IFC Markets closes Anglo positions

IFC Markets, a leading provider of online trading services, has announced a temporary suspension of trading in Contracts for Difference (CFDs) on Anglo American PLC shares (L-AAL) due to an upcoming corporate restructuring.

The trading halt is linked to the planned spin-off of Anglo American Platinum, a core division of the multinational mining conglomerate.

In an official statement on its website, IFC Markets confirmed that CFD trading on L-AAL will be suspended starting May 26, 2025. The broker explained that this measure is necessary to account for the structural changes at the corporate level and to ensure a smooth transition while safeguarding client interests during the spin-off.

As part of the transition, all open positions on L-AAL will be automatically closed at the market's closing price on May 23, 2025, and all pending orders will be deleted before the suspension takes effect.

Precautionary measures and temporary nature of the suspension

This proactive measure is designed to protect traders from potential price volatility and execution risks often associated with significant corporate actions, which can lead to unpredictable fluctuations in the value of stocks and derivatives.

IFC Markets emphasized that the suspension is temporary, and trading on L-AAL CFDs will resume at a later date—after the spin-off is completed and reflected in the market structure. Clients are advised to monitor the trading platform for updates and any possible changes to contract specifications.

Strategic context and guidance for traders

The spin-off of Anglo American Platinum is part of Anglo American PLC’s broader strategy to optimize its business structure and enhance shareholder value by unlocking the potential of its distinct business units.

As one of the industry’s top multi-asset brokers, IFC Markets remains committed to transparency and risk management, especially during periods of corporate transformation. Clients are encouraged to review their portfolios and stay alert for further announcements regarding this and other corporate events.

Notably, IFC Markets recently lowered the entry threshold for index CFD trading, aiming to make these instruments more accessible to retail traders—particularly those who prefer managing risk through smaller trade sizes.
