Barclays strengthens its Japan team with a new Managing Director

​Barclays International Digital Bank is pleased to announce that Naohiko Baba has joined Barclays Securities Japan Limited as Managing Director, Chief Japan Economist, and Head of Japan Research, effective January 1, 2024. 

Naohiko Baba will report to Christian Keller, Head of Economic Research. 

In her role, Baba will lead the firm's macroeconomic research in Japan as Barclays continues to focus on its economic research capabilities both locally and globally. 

"With more than 30 years of industry experience, he brings a wealth of experience and in-depth knowledge of the Japanese economy, particularly its monetary policy. These are key to Barclays' institutional clients as they navigate the long-awaited changes in the Japanese economy that are expected to have a significant impact on their strategies," the bank said on its website

Naohiko Baba joins Barclays from Goldman Sachs, where he was Chief Japan Economist for the past 13 years. Prior to that, he worked at the Bank of Japan (BOJ), where he headed several departments, including the Financial System Research Division and the Money Markets and Fixed Income Division. Naohiko Baba also previously served as Senior Economist of Global Financial Markets at the Bank for International Settlements (BIS) in Switzerland.

Barclays is an international digital bank headquartered in London, whose main advantage is high interest rates on savings. The bank's clients can also link up to 25 accounts from other institutions to their Barclays user account and make free money transfers between them via the mobile app, or use them for online and offline payments.
