Forex Market Hours eToro

Forex market hours are the periods of time when currency trading takes place. The foreign exchange (forex) market is open 24 hours a day, five days a week, except for holidays. That means that forex traders can trade any time, day or night.

Several factors influence the forex market hours. They include:

The geographical location of the forex market participants

The time zone in which the forex market participants are located

The economic activity of the different forex market participants

The most active forex market participants are in Sydney, Tokyo, London, and New York. These four cities make up the majority of the forex market participants. The most active forex trading occurs during the overlap of London and New York.

Let's look at the eToro forex trading hours for each of these four forex market participants.

Sidney. Trading hours are 22:00 GMT - 07:00 GMT. During this session, many participants are from New Zealand and Australia. Pairs actively traded during this session include the AUD/USD, NZD/USD, and AUD/JPY. Generally, any pair that includes the AUD or NZD will be actively traded during this session.

Tokyo. Trading hours are 23:00 GMT - 09:00 GMT. The Tokyo session is often considered the beginning of the forex trading day, as it is the first major session to open after the weekend. Pairs containing the JPY are actively traded during this session. The most popular pairs include the USD/JPY, EUR/JPY, and GBP/JPY.

London. Trading hours are 08:00 GMT - 17:00 GMT. The London session is the most active forex trading session. During this session, most European currency pairs are actively traded. The most popular pairs include EUR/USD, GBP/USD, and EUR/GBP.

New York. Trading hours are 13:00 GMT - 22:00 GMT. The New York session is the last major forex trading session. During this session, pairs that include the USD are actively traded. The most popular pairs include USD/JPY, USD/CHF, and USD/CAD.

Some overlap does exist between the different forex market timezones. The Sydney and Tokyo sessions overlap for one hour, from 08:00 GMT - 09:00 GMT.

The London and New York sessions overlap for four hours, from 13:00 GMT - 17:00 GMT.

The Best Time to Trade Forex

US Stock Market Hours

Three markets exist in US stocks:

Pre-market

Regular market

After-hours market

Pre-market is the period between 4:00 a.m. and 9:30 a.m. ET. This session is characterized by lower trading volume, large spreads, and thin liquidity. This is because many market participants are not yet active during this time.

The regular market is the period between 9:30 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. ET. This is the most active time for US stocks. During this session, the vast majority of market participants are active, and trading volume is at its highest.

The after-hours market refers to the period between 4:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. ET. Investors use electronic communication networks (ECNs) during this session to trade stocks. This session is characterized by lower trading volume, wider spreads, and less liquidity.

Crypto Market Hours

The Crypto market does not have official hours like other markets. The market is open 24/7 on eToro. Read more in the article: How to buy bitcoin on eToro.
