TU Expert Advice

Author, Financial Expert at Traders Union

Nordea offers trading stocks, bonds, ETFs, and funds with Nordea Investor mobile apps and online banking. The company provides Cash, Depot, and Stock Savings accounts, catering to various investor needs. Its clients benefit from access to Scandinavian markets with fixed fees and can utilize the digital advisor Nora for guided investments, starting with low initial deposits.

However, Nordea has some drawbacks, including a primary focus on European markets and the lack of leverage, which may limit advanced trading strategies. Fees, while competitive in the Scandinavian context, may not appeal to those planning small transactions. Nordea is suitable for investors interested in stable, long-term investments in Scandinavian and European markets, but may not be ideal for traders seeking high leverage and global diversification.

Nordea is well-known, so I chose this bank for investing in securities. The fee rates seemed reasonable to me - not too high for a regulated broker. I've recently become interested in trading stocks, so I stick to well-known companies, though Nordea does offer access to lesser-known ones too. I quickly learned how to buy and sell assets in the mobile app because it has a user-friendly interface without a lot of confusing buttons and tabs.

Initially, I used Nordea's banking services and took out a few small loans for home appliances. When the Investor button appeared in the app, I decided to check out the trading conditions. I'm not very knowledgeable about securities trading, but Nordea allows you to start with any amount, so I deposited EUR 150 and bought shares in three small Danish companies. I was charged about EUR 3 in fees for this. After two months, I successfully sold the shares and reinvested the earnings in securities. My portfolio is now worth around EUR 1,000, and I plan to continue.

After opening an account with Nordea, I started by investing in government bonds. However, I soon realized that yields were low, so I decided to try more risky instruments like stocks. Nordea offers a wide range of stocks, including Scandinavian and international companies. Trading fees differ between local and foreign markets, but overall, the broker's fees for trading on the Danish, Norwegian, and Swedish exchanges are quite reasonable. For instance, the minimum fee for the Swedish stock market is SEK 1.

Nordea has clear fee calculation terms, though I don't like the minimum rate because it's not profitable for small trades. So, each of my transactions starts at DKK 10,000, as my investment experience allows me to work with large orders. I could have chosen a broker without mandatory fee deductions, but I've been using Nordea's banking services for over five years and I'm satisfied. Its reliability is unquestionable. I make trades directly in the mobile banking app - it’s convenient.

I initially decided to test Nordea's Nora tool. After answering some questions about my investment goals and risk tolerance, I was recommended to one of Nordea's funds. Instead of making a lump sum deposit, I opted for monthly contributions. Now, DKK 500 is automatically deducted from my card on the first of each month. I chose a fund with the lowest risk level, which yields only 2.07%. The highest projected return is 14.72%, but that's for funds with a risk level of 5 out of 5.

Account types

All Nordea accounts operate without leverage. Users can become clients and open an account online directly through the site for their region.

Account Type
Description
Cash Account
All trades are conducted only with the funds available in the account. No leverage is used, so the risk of losses is limited to the account balance. There is no need to meet margin requirements or worry about a Margin Call. Cash Accounts are suitable for investors of any experience level but may restrict the trading opportunities for professionals who use borrowed funds.
Depot Account
These accounts are designed for holding securities and other assets. They are similar to savings accounts but for investment purposes. They are not intended for active trading but for holding and accumulating assets. Returns may be lower compared to Cash Accounts, but the risk is significantly reduced. Like the Cash Account, it does not allow trading with borrowed funds.
Stock Savings Account
These accounts are meant for long-term investment in stocks and other securities. They combine functions of both savings and investment accounts, making them appealing for long-term capital accumulation. In some countries, these accounts may offer tax benefits on investment income.

The Cash Account is perfect for those who want to trade actively without using leverage. The Depot Account is suited for holding assets and savings with minimal risk. The Stock Savings Account is designed for long-term investors who want to benefit from tax breaks and grow their capital.
