TU Expert Verdict

Anton Kharitonov

Chief Analytics Officer

Vietcap is a Vietnamese stockbroker and investment bank offering trading access to the Hanoi Stock Exchange, Hochiminh Stock Exchange, and UPCOM, with a focus on Vietnamese stocks, ETFs, bonds, and derivatives. Its proprietary mobile, web, and desktop platforms support margin trading with an annual interest rate of 12.5%, while client assets are kept separate to enhance security. Vietcap is regulated by the State Securities Commission of Vietnam and reports quarterly and annual financial results, underlining operational transparency. Account options include Stock Trading Accounts for locals and Foreign Indirect Investment Account access for non-residents, with a low minimum deposit set at 1 VND.

Some disadvantages include a complex account setup process and documentation difficulties for non-residents, no access to international stock exchanges, and a lack of integrated online chat for support. Vietcap may not be suitable for traders seeking simple onboarding, broad global market coverage, or extensive digital customer support, but fits investors prioritizing regulated access to Vietnamese securities and local market expertise.

Information

Until 2023, the company was known as Viet Capital Securities. Since 2007, its activities have been regulated by the State Securities Commission of Vietnam (SSC), which issued it license 68/UBCK-GP. After the rebranding, the document was updated, and Vietcap remained a regulated brokerage company and investment bank.

Advantages

  • The company reports financial results every quarter and additionally once a year
  • Client funds are segregated from Vietcap's assets
  • The Vietnamese regulator does not prohibit the broker from serving foreign investors

Disadvantages

  • All documentation is in Vietnamese, which complicates the adaptation process for foreign residents
  • Complicated account opening procedure for investors who are not Vietnamese citizens
  • Deposit and withdrawal of funds using cards and e-wallets is not available

The HNX exchange, where derivatives are traded, charges VND 2,700 per index futures contract and VND 4,500 per bond futures contract. Fund transfer fees are charged by the bank according to its internal payment policies. The broker charges fees for the custody of stock and bond certificates, and for the transfer of securities, but account opening and closing are free of charge.

TU experts calculated the Vietcap commission for a stock transaction amounting to $1,000. The table below shows this value and provides a comparison with the trading fees of other brokers. Vietcap’s portfolio management features

Capital management is a service provided by a broker or investment company that involves forming and rebalancing an investor's portfolio. In such management, the company's agents make decisions on behalf of the client regarding trading securities and other assets to achieve pre-agreed investment objectives.

Key characteristics of capital management at Vietcap:

  • Analysis and strategy. A team of experienced analysts and portfolio managers conducts market analysis and develops an investment strategy that aligns with the client's goals and risk profile.

  • Portfolio management. The broker actively manages the investor's portfolio, making decisions about buying, selling, and holding assets.

  • Diversification. Asset managers try to diversify the client's portfolio as much as possible to reduce risks and increase potential returns.

  • Reporting. Clients receive regular reports on the status of their portfolio, transactions made, and investment results.

  • Compliance. The broker adheres to all laws governing capital management and always acts in the client's best interest.

Vietcap offers two options for capital management: a discretionary approach (where the manager makes trading decisions independently) or an advisory approach (where the investor receives recommendations and then makes their own buy/sell transactions).
