Bitfinex highlighted that its BTC margin long and short data, closely watched by market participants, recently showed an increase in margin long positions, particularly as the market experienced a price decline. The broker notes this behavior often reflects large traders accumulating positions during periods of market weakness.
Bitfinex released data indicating a significant increase in BTC margin long positions, which are closely monitored as indicators of market sentiment. According to the broker, margin longs rose to 82,681 BTC last week—an 88% increase from July 2023 lows and the highest since November 2023—while Bitcoin’s price declined by nearly 10%, with three consecutive negative daily closes from May 20–23. This behavior, which contributed approximately $6.2 billion in additional long exposure during the drawdown, is described as consistent with previous bear-market patterns, where large market participants tend to accumulate during periods of weakness. Bitfinex emphasizes that its margin data offers visible insights into the activities of larger traders and is closely watched by both the firm and broader market participants.
