Ocugen, Inc. aims to bring gene therapy to a wider patient base with plans to pursue three Biologics License Applications (BLAs) by 2028 for one-time treatments targeting blindness diseases.

CEO Dr. Shankar Musunuri presented the company’s vision in an interview with FierceBiotech, emphasizing Ocugen, Inc.'s commitment to making advanced therapies more broadly available. The planned submissions, including gene therapies such as OCU400, are positioned to address major unmet medical needs in the eye disease segment.

Ocugen has accelerated development of modifier gene therapies targeting major blindness diseases, according to a recent report. The company is also developing therapies aimed at hundreds of genetic mutations linked to vision loss, addressing a $132 billion global burden, as previously detailed here. These initiatives follow the company’s focus on expanding access to advanced treatments in eye health.
