Ouster, Inc. has launched the Rev8 OS1 Max, a lidar-based traffic detection solution capable of identifying vehicles, cyclists, and pedestrians at intersections with 500 ft advance detection in native color. The system addresses traditional radar limitations, which can detect the presence of an object but cannot differentiate between a car, a cyclist, or a person in a wheelchair.
The new product aims to enhance road safety and efficiency by providing more precise traffic signal actuation and classification capabilities. By distinguishing among multiple roadway users, the Rev8 OS1 Max offers improved responsiveness and adaptability to diverse intersection scenarios.
Ouster previously introduced digital lidar technology featuring structured depth images and 3D point mapping for accurate sensing in its grid-based 3D point output. Earlier this year, the company presented a live native color lidar demonstration at the Automate robotics event. Both developments focus on enhancing the precision and application of lidar in real-world environments.
