Hawaiian Electric to close Kawaihae Street lanes for Ahi Substation upgrade — Hawaiian Electric closes lanes for upgrade

Hawaiian Electric will install electrical equipment at its Ahi Substation on Wednesday, July 22, as part of a broader project to enhance reliability in East Honolulu.

The work will require closing two mauka lanes of Kawaihae Street between Hawaii Kai Drive and Hakalau Place, with traffic to be contraflowed from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The initiative is aimed at improving infrastructure and minimizing future outages for residents in the area. Motorists are advised to expect delays and plan for alternate routes during the scheduled work hours.

Hawaiian Electric recently launched its Hawaii Powered vision, inviting public input on plans for 100 percent local clean energy.
