BlackRock seeds staked Ethereum ETF with $100 000 capital
BlackRock, the world’s largest asset manager, has completed the technical launch of its yield-generating Ethereum fund by purchasing 4,000 shares at $25 each, providing $100,000 in initial seed capital for the trust.
According to an amended S-1 registration statement filed Tuesday, BlackRock has taken a significant step toward launching the ETF iShares Staked Ethereum Trust, which is expected to trade under the ticker ETHB.
The $100,000 provided by BlackRock is expected to be used to establish initial capital, ensure early liquidity, and activate the creation mechanism for ETF shares.
The filing projects that Ether staking yields will average around 3% annually based on early 2026 benchmark data, though returns could decline as validator participation increases.
“In early 2026, benchmark data indicates an average annual yield of approximately 3%… These historical ranges reflect average network conditions during those periods and do not guarantee future results,” the documents state.
Shareholders to receive 82% of staking revenue
The filing also notes that the iShares Staked Ethereum Trust intends to stake “the maximum practicable amount of the trust’s Ether,” estimated at 70–95% under normal market conditions. Between 5% and 30% of total ETH holdings will remain unstaked to facilitate creations, redemptions, and operational needs.
The updated filing discloses a sponsor fee of 0.25% annually, with a potential reduction to 0.12% on the first $2.5 billion in assets under management during the first 12 months following launch, subject to promotional terms.
The fund will allocate 18% of gross staking rewards to the sponsor, BlackRock, and its execution agent, Coinbase Prime, while the remaining net staking income will flow into the trust and ultimately to shareholders.
