CoinShares launches UCITS platform for Europe's institutional market
CoinShares enters UCITS market

CoinShares is entering Europe's regulated fund market with a new UCITS platform aimed at broadening access to institutional capital. The move comes with the debut of a Bitcoin Mining UCITS ETF, giving the crypto asset manager a structure tailored to mandates used by pension funds, insurers and private banks.

Highlights

  • CoinShares launched a UCITS platform enabling access to Europe's institutional investors previously restricted by product wrapper limitations, with the first fund trading on Deutsche Borse Xetra.
  • The new platform targets the €26.3 trillion European UCITS ecosystem and aims to generate operating leverage by expanding digital asset and thematic products.
  • CoinShares reported over $165.7 million in 2025 full-year revenue after its recent U.S. listing, though shares closed down 2.1% at $4.11 on Monday.

UCITS entry and first fund launch

As reported by The Block, citing CoinShares, the new platform is designed to let the firm access investors across Europe whose mandates have limited exposure to existing crypto-linked product structures.

The company said a key obstacle to wider institutional participation has been the product wrapper, with many investors unable to hold debt securities even when they are physically backed. CoinShares said the UCITS structure removes that constraint and allows it to address a much larger pool of capital within formats already accepted by those mandates.

UCITS, short for Undertakings for the Collective Investment in Transferable Securities, is the regulatory framework for investment funds that can be marketed across the European Union. CoinShares' first product under the platform, the CoinShares Bitcoin Mining UCITS ETF, begins trading on Deutsche Borse Xetra on Tuesday.

Growth strategy and operating leverage

CoinShares said the platform operates with a largely fixed cost base and is built to generate significant operating leverage as additional products are added over time. The company plans to use it to roll out more digital asset and thematic investment strategies.

The expansion adds a new distribution channel for the firm as it targets Europe's 26.3 trillion euro UCITS ecosystem. It also comes after CoinShares reported full-year revenue of more than $165.7 million in 2025 in its first annual report since going public in the U.S. in April.

Nasdaq-listed CoinShares shares closed down 2.1% at $4.11 on Monday.

In our earlier report on the London Stock Exchange’s plans for an overnight trading venue, we outlined how the exchange aims to extend market access beyond standard hours starting in 2027. The initiative is set to begin with thousands of exchange-traded products and is positioned to meet rising retail demand and competitive pressure from platforms offering near-constant trading.
