Is ETH preparing for breakout as volatility reaches May lows?
Low volatility raises the risk of a stronger ETH move.

ETH continues to trade inside the $1,850–1,950 range, while modest inflows into spot ETFs have yet to provide buyers with enough momentum. At the same time, volatility is compressing to extremely low levels, raising the risk of a stronger directional move once the current consolidation ends.

According to SoSoValue, U.S. spot ETH ETFs recorded roughly $6.7 million in net inflows on August 13. Flows have now remained positive for two consecutive days, but the amounts are still too small to materially shift the supply-demand balance or push ETH out of its current consolidation.

ETH remains neutral inside the $1,850–1,950 range

Little has changed technically from the previous analysis. ETH remains locked in range around $1,850-$1,950 with buyers and sellers being unable to find conclusive momentum.

A bearish sustained move under $1,850 would bring significantly more selling pressure into play and increase the likelihood of a greater retracement towards the $1,700 level.

Alternatively, a decisive move above $1,950 and follow-through hold would restore focus on the key psychological $2,000 level and if accelerated this could easily take ETH towards $2,100.

Volatility drops to mid-May levels as consolidation tightens

An increasing factor now becoming is how long the consolidation has been in place for. An even longer the price stays within such a tight trading range-the more significant the move could be when it ultimately breaks out in one direction.

Thirty-day volatility has fallen to 1.68%, a level last seen in mid-May 2026 before ETH declined by more than 36%.
