HYPE trades near record highs as whale demand meets massive profit-taking
HYPE remains one of the strongest cryptocurrencies of the current cycle and continues to hold a bullish structure. After its powerful August rally, however, the market has shifted into consolidation, while activity among large holders points to a tug-of-war between profit-taking and fresh demand.
HYPE has been added to the Hashdex Nasdaq CME Crypto Index ETF (NCIQ) with a weighting of around 3.4%, making it the fund’s fifth-largest asset. According to Hashdex, NCIQ manages roughly $431.4 million and holds around 177,313 HYPE. Inclusion in a regulated index ETF broadens institutional access to Hyperliquid without requiring investors to purchase the token directly.
On-chain flows, meanwhile, remain mixed. On September 3, an unidentified whale, 0x6436, purchased another 430,224 HYPE worth roughly $35.1 million. At the same time, another large holder closed its remaining position of 969,595 HYPE, valued at around $79.2 million.
The heavy profit-taking does not yet look like a one-sided smart-money exit from HYPE. Supply from earlier holders is being met by substantial new demand.

HYPE consolidation puts $77 support in focus
HYPE remains one of the strongest cryptocurrencies of the current cycle, with its long- and medium-term bullish structures still intact. Since August 23, the token has traded within a $77–86.80 range, and a decisive move beyond either boundary will likely determine the next medium-term direction.
The base case for the coming days remains a test of support at $77. The RSI (14) is still close to overbought territory, while the price is trading roughly 70% above the 200-day SMA.
During previous stages of HYPE’s advance, corrections often began once the distance from the 200-day SMA widened to around 70–100%. Further upside remains possible, but the risk of mean reversion can no longer be ignored.
A decisive break and sustained move below $77 would sharply increase the probability of a decline toward the next support around $73. Holding $77, by contrast, would preserve the current bullish structure, while a move above $86.80 would end the consolidation and return HYPE to price discovery.
Strong fundamentals keep the broader HYPE setup intact
Hyperliquid continues to post strong fundamental metrics, supporting medium-term demand for HYPE even as the broader crypto market weakens. High trading volumes, resilient open interest and substantial protocol revenue do not yet point to any deterioration in the fundamental picture.
After such a strong advance, however, the market may need a deeper cooling phase. The $77 test will therefore be crucial: holding this level would preserve the current structure, while a break below it would open the way to a deeper correction.
