U.S. bitcoin ETFs post marginal weekly inflow after $433 million Friday rebound
After sharp midweek withdrawals, U.S. spot bitcoin exchange-traded funds finish the week just above break-even as a strong Friday buying session offsets most of the earlier losses. Ether funds, by contrast, end a four-week inflow streak after three straight negative sessions from Tuesday through Thursday drain more than $400 million.
Highlights
- U.S. bitcoin ETFs posted a $6.2 million net weekly inflow after a $433.0 million Friday rebound, led by Fidelity's $310.7 million and BlackRock's $108.4 million.
- IBIT led bitcoin ETF net inflows for the week with $120.7 million, while cumulative year-to-date inflows stand at $55.16 billion and net assets total $102.53 billion.
- Ether ETFs ended a four-week inflow streak with $56.1 million in weekly outflows, despite BlackRock's ETHA attracting $114.3 million on Friday and trading volumes rising across both bitcoin and ether ETFs.
Weekly flow reversal led by Fidelity and BlackRock
The Block reports that Friday's $433.0 million net inflow gives bitcoin ETFs their largest daily intake since Sept. 3, when the products drew $730.9 million. The late-week rebound follows a volatile stretch in which Monday's $160 million inflow is followed by outflows of $450.3 million on Tuesday and $296 million on Wednesday, before $159.5 million returns on Thursday.Fidelity's FBTC contributes $310.7 million of Friday's total, while BlackRock's IBIT adds $108.4 million. Bitwise, VanEck, and Ark and 21Shares also post smaller inflows, helping the category recover enough to end the week with a slim $6.2 million net gain.
Over the full week, however, IBIT leads individual bitcoin funds with $120.7 million in net inflows, ahead of FBTC's $79.9 million. The remaining bitcoin funds collectively lose about $194.4 million, showing that the category's near-flat weekly result depends heavily on the two largest issuers.
Ether streak ends as trading activity increases
Bitcoin ETFs remain down about $1.45 billion in net flows this year, even though cumulative inflows since launch stand at $55.16 billion and net assets total $102.53 billion as of Friday. Bloomberg ETF analyst Eric Balchunas says in a Thursday post on X that investor resilience remains notable, with cumulative inflows holding near $55 billion after previously peaking around $63 billion despite a 50% drawdown. For ether ETFs, losses from Tuesday through Thursday total $404.8 million and bring the products' four-week inflow streak to an end. BlackRock's ETHA attracts $114.3 million on Friday but still closes the week with $56.1 million in outflows, while Fidelity's FETH posts a weekly loss of $25.8 million despite a $26.2 million Friday addition.
The weekly outflow is the first for ether ETFs since the week ending Aug. 14, although the group remains positive for the year with about $922 million in net inflows. Trading volume also rises across both categories, with bitcoin ETF volume increasing to $16.17 billion from $8.77 billion a week earlier and ether ETF volume climbing to $6.82 billion from $5.14 billion, helped in part by a return to a full five-day trading week after the prior Labor Day-shortened session.
