Grayscale Zcash ETF plans 3-for-1 share split

Grayscale Zcash ETF plans 3-for-1 share split
Zcash ETF share split

Grayscale is moving to lower the per-share price of its Zcash exchange-traded fund as sharp gains in the underlying cryptocurrency raise the cost of entry for investors. The split is set to take effect after the close of trading on Sept. 28, with shareholders receiving two additional shares for each share they hold.

Highlights

  • Grayscale’s Zcash ETF (ZCSH) will implement a 3-for-1 forward share split, reducing price per share and tripling share count without changing investor value.
  • Grayscale initiated the split after Zcash surged about 2,800% over the past year, aiming to enhance affordability and accessibility for a broader investor base.
  • ZEC jumped approximately 20% Thursday and reached $1,521 early Friday following news of Paradigm’s purchase and positive remarks on Zcash’s privacy and funding.

Share split structure and timing

As reported by Cointelegraph, citing a filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, Grayscale’s Zcash ETF, trading under the ticker ZCSH, plans a 3-for-1 forward share split.

The move is expected to reduce the fund’s price per share while increasing the number of shares outstanding by the same proportion, according to a Grayscale press release. The company said the change does not alter the total value of an investor’s holdings, giving a hypothetical example in which 10 shares priced at $300 each become 30 shares priced at $100 each, for the same total value of $3,000.

Zcash rally broadens investor focus

The planned split comes after a steep rise in Zcash’s value, with the token up about 2,800% over the last year and its unit price seen as too high for some investors. Grayscale said the lower per-share price should make the ETF more accessible to a broader range of buyers.

Interest in Zcash has also increased after Paradigm co-founder Matt Huang said the crypto investment firm made an unspecified purchase of ZEC. He described Zcash as a private complement to Bitcoin and said sustained developer funding remains important as AI-driven cyber capabilities and quantum computing continue to advance.

ZEC rose about 20% over 24 hours on Thursday, according to Cointelegraph, and reached as high as $1,521 early Friday, The Block reported, before easing slightly.

Our earlier article on altcoin rotation highlighted how Layer-2 and DeFi tokens began leading the latest crypto rally, outpacing Bitcoin as sentiment gauges like the Altcoin Season Index climbed. It also noted that improving risk appetite and positioning in derivatives markets were supporting the move, suggesting the rally was attracting more than just short-term momentum flows.
