Equities hub structure and launch terms
As reported by The Block, the market went live Friday with tokenized versions of Apple, Amazon, Alphabet, Meta, Microsoft, Nvidia and Tesla available as collateral in Aave V4 on Base.Aave says users can deposit the tokenized stocks and take out USDC loans against them, while the assets remain collateral-only at launch. Chainlink provides onchain pricing through its tokenized equity feeds, and the protocol uses its Hub and Spoke architecture to combine the equity collateral into a single market with one USDC reserve.
According to Aave risk provider LlamaRisk, the market starts with an initial collateral cap of about $29 million across the seven stocks, a $32 million USDC supply cap and a $21 million USDC borrow cap. Collateral factors range from 65% to 79%, depending on the stock, and risk parameters are set separately for each asset so any issue affecting one equity is isolated from the others.
Tokenization strategy and market implications
Aave founder and CEO Stani Kulechov says public equities represent one of the world’s largest capital pools and that tokenization is starting to bring that capital onchain. He says tokenized stocks are moving beyond simple holding or trading and are becoming assets users can borrow against. The launch fits into Aave’s broader push into tokenized stocks, securities and other real-world assets. Kulechov says the main barrier for the sector is no longer technology but go-to-market execution, while institutions could become an important source of demand for onchain borrowing because they "come with size."
Aave says the market operates around the clock and could later add more Coinbase tokenized stocks, as well as GHO as a borrowable asset, subject to governance and risk review. Chainlink Chief Business Officer Johann Eid describes the integration as a step toward bringing the global equities market onchain, while Base Head of Growth Antonio García-Martínez says eligible customers outside the U.S. can use the stocks to borrow USDC and USDC suppliers can earn interest.
Aave says it has processed $3.6 trillion in cumulative deposits and more than $1 trillion in all-time loans.
