Hackers Target U.S. Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) Led by Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy
On December 20, hackers breached Vivek Ramaswamy’s account on social media platform X, using it to promote false information about a strategic partnership between D.O.G.E. and the USUAL stablecoin project. This fake announcement caused the USUAL token price to surge.
The message, posted under Ramaswamy's name, claimed that the partnership aimed to advance cryptocurrency initiatives of the Donald Trump administration, enhance the efficiency of government transactions, and improve fiscal accountability.
The fraudulent announcement quickly captured traders' attention, driving USUAL's price up by 31% to $1.61 and boosting its market capitalization by 39% to $720 million.
However, the post was soon debunked and removed, with Ramaswamy’s team confirming the hack and calling the partnership claims a scam.
.
"I just spoke to Vivek. His account was hacked. He’s locked out. This is fraud," wrote James Fishback, founder of Invest Azoria, on X.
This is not the first such incident in December. Earlier this week, hackers compromised the X account of Anthropic to promote a token called CLAUDE.
Even Elon Musk was not spared, as deepfake videos featuring him falsely advertised a $20 million token giveaway, directing users to a malicious website.
On Monday, a video featuring a man resembling Elon Musk caused a stir in the crypto community. In the clip, the individual invites viewers to visit the website Elon4u.com to participate in a $20 million cryptocurrency giveaway scheduled for December 13-20.
