Solana postpones Shanghai event amid registration surge and compliance constraints
Solana Shanghai event delayed

Solana has delayed the Shanghai stop of its Accelerate China tour after demand for the event outpaced the attendance limit set by local authorities. The change comes as the blockchain group expands its presence in China despite the country maintaining tight restrictions on a wide range of crypto-related activities.

Highlights

  • Solana postpones its Shanghai Accelerate event after pre-registration quadruples overnight, exceeding capacity limits set by local authorities.
  • Some attendees report abrupt suspension of the Shanghai event with law enforcement present, while Solana plans to continue its tour in Hangzhou, Shenzhen, and Beijing.
  • China's reinforced crypto restrictions since February, including bans on unauthorized stablecoins, continue to impact Solana's expansion efforts and event logistics in the country.

Shanghai event delay and capacity limits

As reported by Cointelegraph, Lily Liu, president of the Solana Foundation, says the Solana Accelerate event in Shanghai is postponed after pre-registration exceeds the cap imposed by local authorities.

Liu writes in a Friday post on X that registrations quadruple overnight after publicity around the event, prompting organizers to delay the gathering to comply with local requirements. Earlier on Friday, some X users claim the event is "abruptly suspended" while law enforcement officers are stationed at the venue.

Shanghai is scheduled to open Solana's four-city Accelerate China tour, with stops planned next in Hangzhou on Sunday, Shenzhen on Tuesday and Beijing on Thursday, according to the event website.

China crypto restrictions frame expansion push

The postponement follows Solana executives' promotion earlier this week of a new Shanghai office, highlighting the group's efforts to deepen its footprint in the market even as the regulatory backdrop remains restrictive.

China prohibits multiple crypto-related services, including token fundraising, trading and mining. In February, the People's Bank of China and seven other agencies reinforce those restrictions in a notice that adds new bans, including unauthorized issuance of yuan-pegged stablecoins.

Solana has faced similar event constraints in China before. In October 2025, a Solana event in Shenzhen is cut short because of venue-capacity and public-safety concerns, according to Solana's Chinese-language community account on X.
