Funding round supports AI payments push
As reported by CoinDesk, Tether leads a $15 million Series A round in Mural, with participation from North Island Ventures and existing investors, according to an emailed announcement issued Tuesday. The deal extends the stablecoin issuer's investment activity into infrastructure designed to help AI agents handle payments across regulated financial systems.Mural, founded by former Palantir engineers, provides fintechs and other platforms with infrastructure for account management, payments, identity verification and regulatory compliance across traditional banking networks and blockchains. Its customers include payroll platform Deel and browser developer Opera.
Paolo Ardoino, chief executive of Tether, says in the statement that as agents start moving money, links to banks, payment networks and compliance systems remain essential. The funding reflects Tether's broader interest in infrastructure beyond stablecoin issuance as AI-powered financial services develop new payment use cases.
In our earlier report on the KPMG U.S. CEO survey on AI agents, we noted that many large companies are seeing early efficiency and growth gains, even if only a small share currently view the technology as truly transformational. The survey also highlighted continued hiring, retraining, and sustained investment in AI infrastructure as leaders prepare for broader adoption of agentic systems.
