Pavel Durov freed from French judicial supervision restrictions
France lifts travel ban on Telegram founder Pavel Durov

According to Agence France-Presse (AFP), Telegram founder Pavel Durov has been released from judicial supervision measures that previously restricted his ability to leave France.

Durov is now free to travel abroad and is no longer required to report regularly to the police station in Nice.

Sources within the French judicial system said the decision was made because Durov had “fully complied with all court-imposed conditions,” as well as due to progress in the investigation that led to his arrest on August 24, 2024, at Paris–Le Bourget Airport.

Durov, a French citizen, cannot be extradited or exchanged. The arrest warrant was issued after he allegedly failed to cooperate with French authorities investigating drug trafficking and other serious crimes conducted through the Telegram messenger.

Improving situation

Initially, the judicial supervision required Durov to report to the Nice police station twice a week. In July, however, authorities eased these restrictions, allowing him to leave France for up to two weeks to visit Dubai, where his relatives live and Telegram’s offices are located. He was still obliged to inform the investigating judge before traveling.

Earlier, French media reported that Durov’s case is unlikely to reach trial before February 2026 — if at all. His lawyer, David-Olivier Kaminski, told reporters that the Telegram founder has “no issues with the French justice system” and continues to reside in the UAE, where he has spent recent months.
