Highlights
- The Reserve Bank of India clarified that new foreign exchange risk reserve rules apply only to rupee derivatives for current account hedges above $2 million, exempting most interbank and capital account transactions.
- Normal market liquidity remains intact due to RBI's exclusions for market-makers and ongoing support through dollar sales and currency swaps since June 2026.
- EUR/INR continues to show bullish momentum with momentum indicators in overbought territory, and the projected 2 to 3 day trading range is ₹106.2919 to ₹107.5481.
RBI clarifies FERR scope, sustaining liquidity amid euro rebound
The Reserve Bank of India clarified on October 15 that its new foreign exchange risk reserve (FERR) requirements are limited to rupee-linked derivative contracts used for hedging current account transactions over $2 million, reducing operational uncertainty for most market players, according to Ndtvprofit. By excluding interbank trades, market-making, proprietary trading, and capital account hedges such as foreign direct investments and external commercial borrowings, as reported by Economictimes Indiatimes, the RBI ensured normal market functions and sustained liquidity. Additional support came from the RBI’s ongoing dollar sales and currency swaps since June 2026, as noted by Business Standard, alongside a recovery in the euro following its rebound against the US dollar as yields declined, as reported by Economictimes Indiatimes.
Bullish momentum persists despite overbought signals limiting upside
The EUR/INR pair is trading above the MA-20 at ₹106.405 and the MA-50 at ₹106.3466, but remains below the MA-200 at ₹109.4461. The Ichimoku Kijun serves as immediate support at ₹106.2974. Bull/Bear Power and the Awesome Oscillator both confirm buyer control, while MACD and ADX show that upward momentum is firmly established. However, with RSI at 63.8 and both Stoch RSI and CCI in overbought territory, intraday buying conditions appear stretched and raise the risk of a short-term pause or consolidation.
Consolidation expected as breakout odds favor bulls
Over the next two to three trading days, the EUR/INR is most likely to consolidate within the projected volatility band of ₹106.2919 to ₹107.5481. The probability of an upward breakout stands at 74%, making a downside move less likely in the near term. If price manages to break above ₹107.5481, a test of higher resistance levels may follow. Conversely, a break below immediate support at ₹106.2919 could open the way for additional retracement.
Previously it was reported that EUR/INR was exhibiting short- and medium-term upward momentum, while longer-term resistance continued to limit further gains. The current analysis adds that buyers remain in control, but with intraday technicals showing overbought conditions, traders should remain alert for a potential short-term pause ahead of any sustained move toward higher resistance levels.
