Bond yields drop and optimism rises as government targets eurozone entry

Hungary's central bank stated that the country aims to satisfy all requirements for joining the eurozone by 2030, with potential introduction of the euro in 2031 or 2032. The announcement led to a reduction of more than 150 basis points in Hungarian government bond yields and brought ten-year yields below those of Poland. The central bank highlighted that this optimism is linked to government efforts on fiscal consolidation and deficit reduction, though price action has remained under broader selling pressure.

Anton Kharitonov, expert at Traders Union, sees the GBP/HUF pair showing modest downside pressure. He notes that price action remains vulnerable, with the pair trading just below the 20-day moving average and sentiment weighed down by Hungary's euro adoption optimism. Kharitonov highlights that intraday volatility and neutral oscillators caution against aggressive positioning, especially as selling persists despite bullish trends on longer horizons. He warns that signals from the Awesome Oscillator and declining price suggest potential for further weakness. "Despite some bullish momentum, I believe this market lacks conviction for a sustained rebound and could face deeper setbacks if support at Ft434.69 fails," Kharitonov says.
Viktoras Karapetjanc, expert at Traders Union, views the Hungarian central bank’s eurozone ambitions as a solid catalyst for investor confidence. He highlights that falling government bond yields and firm fiscal reforms bolster the case for the forint. Karapetjanc points out that constructive momentum readings and bullish structures remain in place above key supports. He expects the pair to consolidate with ample breakout potential in the coming days. "With fundamentals and technicals aligned, I see further growth likely once immediate resistance at Ft435.07 is cleared," Karapetjanc states.
Sholanke Dele, market strategist, remains skeptical about GBP/HUF’s near-term direction. He observes persistent selling pressure even as policy shifts generate temporary optimism. Dele thinks the risk of a breakdown lingers as intraday volatility picks up and buying signals diverge from neutral momentum cues. "In my view, caution is warranted as the pair faces increased downside risk below Ft434.69," Dele says.

Near-term resistance holds as strong momentum diverges from neutral signals

GBP/HUF is currently positioned just below its 20-day moving average at Ft435.07, while remaining above the 50-day (Ft430.37) and well above the 200-day (Ft423.99). This setup indicates some near-term resistance, although both medium- and long-term trends remain bullish. The Ichimoku Kijun at Ft434.42 provides additional support. Immediate resistance is at Ft435.07, with support at today’s session low of Ft434.69. Momentum indicators are broadly constructive: both MACD and ADX suggest buying strength. The Relative Strength Index (RSI), Stochastic RSI, and Commodity Channel Index (CCI) are all in neutral zones. Buyers show intraday momentum as Bull/Bear Power (BBP) is above zero. The pair opened flat and current price of Ft434.95 reflects a 0.56% decline, near session lows. Intraday volatility is at 0.66%, pointing to early weakness and slight downside pressure. The Awesome Oscillator remains neutral, and signals from neutral oscillators contrast with strong momentum indicators, indicating divergence without a reversal warning.

Earlier, analysts noted that the Pound Sterling vs Hungarian Forint had shifted into a short-term bearish stance with downside risks prominent. The current analysis adds a new dimension by highlighting technical divergence amid Hungary's push for euro adoption, making the pair's ability to hold above Ft434.69 a key level to watch for confirmation of further consolidation or emerging directional bias.
