Australian dollar vs yen slides 0.67% today

Australian Dollar vs Japanese Yen (AUD/JPY) edged lower today as persistent bearish technical momentum and weak short-term trends dominated, lacking a fresh catalyst from the news cycle. The move is supported by the pair's position below all major moving averages and renewed downside pressure after the session open.

Highlights

  • AUD/JPY trades below short-, medium-, and long-term moving averages, confirming ongoing bearish pressure across timeframes.
  • Momentum and trend indicators remain weak but stochastic RSI registers as oversold, indicating scope for a technical rebound.
  • Price is forecast to consolidate near current levels with a range of ¥107.96 to ¥109.84 and downside risk exceeding 80%.
Anton Kharitonov, expert at Traders Union, notes that AUD/JPY continues to lack fresh news drivers, leaving technical factors and sentiment in control. He observes the persistent inability of the pair to regain any key moving averages and emphasizes that even intraday attempts at recovery have failed to reverse the negative structure. Kharitonov highlights that weak trend strength, a bearish configuration across multiple timeframes, and absent bullish momentum signal caution. He warns that any upward move above ¥109.41 remains highly unlikely unless significant new information emerges. "Traders should remain defensive, as the bearish pressure is dominant and any rebound is likely to be short-lived unless clear catalysts appear," Kharitonov states.
Viktoras Karapetjanc, expert at Traders Union, sees technical bearishness as temporary within an overall robust macro backdrop. Despite no significant news events, the analyst stresses that AUD/JPY's structure offers medium-term positioning opportunities. Karapetjanc contends that volatility and recent downside may invite strong buyers on dips as fundamental themes still support resilience. He maintains that market participants should watch for swift reversals should momentum waver. "The underlying bullish structure remains intact and I expect further growth as the market offers multiple setups for agile traders," Karapetjanc asserts.
Parshwa Turakhiya, analyst, believes AUD/JPY is trapped in a sentiment-driven range with downside bias dominating for now. He observes oversold momentum indicators suggesting a possible short-term bounce, but the prevailing lack of positive catalysts limits the upside. Turakhiya advises watching price action near ¥108.19 as support and warns that failure to hold could deepen negative sentiment. "Short-term traders should be agile and look for signals of reversal, but capital protection comes first in this indecisive environment," says Turakhiya.

Technical resistance reinforces momentum loss amid persistent bearish bias

AUD/JPY is trading below the 20-day, 50-day, and 200-day moving averages at ¥110.43, ¥110.54, and ¥112.25, confirming persistent downside pressure across short-, medium-, and long-term trends. The near-term ceiling stands at ¥109.41 with support at the near-term floor of ¥108.19, while the Ichimoku Kijun at ¥110.11 and all key moving averages remain distant, reinforcing the prevailing bearish alignment. Momentum indicators are soft, with the MACD and Average Directional Index (ADX) both showing weak trend strength. The Relative Strength Index (RSI) and Commodity Channel Index (CCI) both register neutral readings. Stochastic RSI is in the oversold zone, suggesting potential for a technical rebound rather than confirmation of further weakness. Bull/Bear Power (BBP) signals that buyers maintain intraday dominance. The pair fell ¥0.74 or 0.67% today, after opening nearly flat and now sits mid-range for the session with intraday volatility at 1.35%. The intraday tone shows renewed pressure after the open, as downside momentum remains in play.

Earlier, analysts noted that the Australian Dollar vs Japanese Yen was entrenched in a persistent bearish trend with limited prospects for recovery. Current technical signals reinforce this outlook, and traders should monitor the ¥108.19 support, as a break below this level could heighten downside risk in the coming sessions.
