But we saved everything 🙂.
Treasury yields remain above 5%, while U.S. debt tops $40 trillion. Currently, AI concentration accounts for most of the market gains, as only 55% of S&P 500 stocks are trading above their 200-day average. Meanwhile, credit spreads begin to widen. So can traders adjust their strategies to the rising cost of capital and predict the changing market dynamics for the next several months?
The cost of capital remains the main risk. The 10-year Treasury yield is 5.04%, after trading above 5.3% earlier this month. U.S. government debt has surpassed $40 trillion, with net new Treasury issuance that may reach $2.1 trillion in 2026. Interest costs have exceeded $1 trillion annually.
“Pay attention to the bond market and the cost of money, because that is the backbone to everything,” Dalio said. “Keep an eye on the Treasury yield and the spreads in relationship to that.”

He has warned that the bond bear market “probably has a long way to go” as total net fixed-income financing needs may reach $4.4 trillion in 2027. Credit spreads, particularly high-yield option-adjusted spreads, tend to widen compared with historically tight levels. This serves as an early signal of stress that most market participants have so far largely ignored.
Market performance and economic growth have become heavily dependent on several artificial-intelligence leaders. Hyperscalers issued roughly $220 billion in bonds in the first half of 2026. It is more than double the full-year total for 2025, with equity issuance also increasing. Top holdings now account for a large share of S&P 500 market capitalization.
“Pay attention to the concentration that is existing in one thing right now: AI,” Dalio wrote.

Dalio argues that the AI boom has created significant concentration risk for both the economy and financial markets. He recommends greater diversification, noting that even passive index investments carry substantial AI exposure. Free-cash-flow pressure at several major spenders also suggests that rising financing costs could increase the risk of a sharp economic slowdown.
Index-level strength does not reveal the weak investors’ participation. Around 54% to 55% of S&P 500 companies trade above their 200-day moving averages in October, but it is far from the confirmed bullish trend. Advance-decline ratios often just follow price advances, as equal-weighted indexes show weaker results as compared with capitalization-heavy positions.

Traders should understand that this concentration makes the market vulnerable to any disappointment or market leaders’ problems. Historically, actual advances require expanding participation; the current situation, on the contrary, indicates many underlying concerns that may lead to a large-scale crisis.
The dollar performs the functions of a key transmission mechanism. The ICE U.S. Dollar Index remains between 101.7 and 101.8 in recent sessions after testing higher levels. A stronger dollar creates additional pressure on emerging-market assets and commodities as well as the earnings of U.S. multinationals with considerable overseas revenue. So traders should necessarily consider the movement of international capital before opening mid- and long-term trades.

Analysts recognize that the dollar dynamic in Q4 will influence risk tolerance towards equities, gold, oil, and crypto. Higher interest rates will have the restrictive effects of higher yields, while any correction may be positive to risk assets. At the same time, the Fed is likely to stabilize its monetary policy without significant changes in the next sessions.
Earnings remain the primary factor that does not allow companies to reach sustainable shares’ growth. Consensus expects S&P 500 third-quarter earnings rise between 20% and 35% year-over-year. However, most results will come from the technology and energy sectors. AI-related infrastructure companies may contribute more than half of overall EPS growth, and it reveals serious imbalances in the economy.

Traders should also monitor capital spending, free cash flow, and demand dynamics. Any changes in ratings may serve as an early indicator of the loss of investor confidence in some companies or sectors. Traders who examine these signals in real time understand the market better than those who evaluate only price fluctuations. So the combination of both technical and fundamental analysis becomes crucial for being effective under present conditions.
